James Davis Mayhew, "J.D." 1925-2004, a local to the Mendocino Coast since 1971, in his time, was one of the North Coast’s most outstanding marine and wildlife artists. He was a master etcher using copper and zinc plates, painter using oils and watercolor, illustrator using graphite and pen and ink techniques, and experimented with scrimshaw.

My name is Shana Hadley, I am J.D.’s eldest granddaughter and the owner of The Art of J.D. Mayhew. I started my business in response to a continued interest in my grandfather J.D.'s art, which inspires beyond his passing. I am also working to archive his art and history.
