James Davis Mayhew, "J.D." 1925-2004, a local to the Mendocino Coast since 1971, in his time, was one of the North Coast’s most outstanding marine and wildlife artists. He was a highly educated and skilled master etcher using copper and zinc plates, painter using oils and watercolor, illustrator using graphite and pen and ink techniques, and experimented with scrimshaw.

My name is Shana Hadley, I am J.D.’s eldest granddaughter and the owner of The Art of J.D. Mayhew. I started my business in response to a continued interest in his work which inspires beyond his passing. I am working to document and archive his work and history.
